On a recent visit to Atlanta, we discovered that the city is an ideal place for holidaying with an array of performing arts venues, historical sites, museums and parks.

Atlanta is often referred to as “city in a forest” because of lush green vegetation which adds to the beauty of this town.

Must Do Things in Atlanta

 Checkout the Fox Theatre

Designed in the 1920’s this lavish theater hosts Broadway shows and is also home to Atlanta Ballet’s annual performance of “Nutcracker”. Apart from this, it hosts a number of events throughout the year. We had great fun watching a musical which had some talented performers. The building is beautiful and is a must visit if you are in Atlanta.

Go to Piedmont Park

My wife just loved this beautiful park located in downtown Atlanta. It spans over 185 acres and hosts a number of events including races, soccer games, sand volleyball etc. The botanical garden adjoining the main park was interesting and the park is worth spending a few hours.

Checkout the legendary East Lake Golf Club

For golf lovers this place is heaven and even if you are not one, this place is worth visiting. It has a beautiful layout and the greens are flawless. The clubhouse has a lot of memorabilia which is interesting and invokes much of the old world charm which you expect from this great facility.

Visit Jimmy Carter Library and Museum

The museum cum library is a wonderful tribute to President Jimmy Carter and a great place to witness American history. The collection of books and papers gives a comprehensive insight into President Carter’s life. My wife, being a history buff, just loved this scenic library in the heart of Atlanta. This place is worth spending a couple of hours.

Go to the Oakland Cemetery

We did a walking around tour of this cemetery which is more like a park. We had an amazing time looking around and getting knowledge about history. It is good to visit the place in spring when the flowers are in full bloom, making your experience more fascinating.

Where to Stay

From luxury hotels to budget friendly places and comfortable inns Atlanta has it all. We stayed at Mandarin Oriental and were bowled over by the service. My wife just loved the poolside lunch and the spa had an amazing fragrance and was very relaxing. The hotel situated in Buckhead, is just minutes away from a plethora of restaurants and shops and is a good place to stay. A few other options are Wingate ,Holiday Inn Express, The St. Regis and InterContinental Buckhead.

Where to Eat

We ate at Canoe and were impressed by the quick service and diverse menu options. The staff was friendly and a perfect ambiance makes this place a must visit for everyone.
