McDonald’s will increase its sponsorship on Jamie McMurray’s No. 1 Chevy to help make up for the departure of primary sponsor Bass Pro Shops, an Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing spokesperson said Thursday.

EGR’s Jeff Dowling said in an email he’s “not 100 percent sure” what the fast-food chain’s total commitment will be, but that the team is planning an announcement on Jan. 23 during the NASCAR media tour that will outline sponsorship for the No. 1 car. McDonald’s sponsored 13 races in 2012.

Bass Pro Shops, which will sponsor Tony Stewart in 18 races in 2013, is not leaving McMurray completely, a possibility that was hinted at after the Stewart announcement was made.

According to Dowling, Bass Pro Shops is expected to remain as an associate sponsor and “hopefully be the primary on the No. 1 car for one or more races.” The team is still working on details.

McMurray also had several one-off sponsors on his car in 2012, and Dowling said announcements on others will be announced soon.

Not that we’ll ever hear but i would guess that McDonalds was offered a rock-bottom price to get those extra races as more of a gift to them to try and keep them happy after their awful year last year. But who knows…sometimes sponsors are happy even when the results aren’t there to support. Just like Roush coming out bragging on how the sponsors are upping their involvement after Matt left…that’s likely because the price per race dropped and the they’re getting more races for the same money (not that they said…Oh Good..Matt is gone…let’s buy more races now) These press releases are often more “Spin” than “News”
