If you are looking forward to spend a relaxing weekend watching lush green pastures and listening to soul stirring country music then you must visit Nashville. Thousands of country music aficionados flock the Tennessee capital in June for the annual CMA music festival.
My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the place recently and little did we know that it will become one of our favorite destinations. Delectable butter milk biscuits, manicured gardens, interesting museums and art galleries, the city has something for everyone to discover.
Nashville boasts of 5000 working musicians and is a popular culture hub. With more than 180 recording studios, it is rightly called the “MusicCity” of America.
Must Do Things in Nashville
Attend the Grand Ole Opry
We were lucky to get tickets to the Grand Ole Opry where some of the finest artistes of country music performed live. It was a thrilling experience and we were happy to find ourselves with people who shared the same passion. The Opry, true to its name, has been entertaining people for more than 85 years.
Listen to the Nashville Symphony
Listening to the symphony orchestra play some great music was a perfect way to end the day. The orchestra comprises amateur and professional musicians who perform 140 concerts annually.
Watch the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators Play
Music is not the city’s only claim to fame. Sports lovers from all parts of the country, throng Nashville, to watch these two teams in action. I was barely able to speak after all the screaming and cheering, but it was worth it.
Go for a ride on General Jackson Riverboat
We had an amazing time at this showboat, away from the din and bustle of day to day life. Enjoying the palatable dinner while listening to mellifluous music was like a dream come true and I was surprised by the diversity of local music that the city has to offer.
The design of this riverboat is influenced by 19th century steam powered American showboat and has a capacity of 1200 passengers. The March-December season witnesses a variety of shows and is the right time to visit.
Visit the Tennessee State Museum
My wife loves going to museums and witnessing the artistry of a bygone era and hence this place was on the cards, right from the time we had planned this trip. It was intriguing to see World War 1 mementoes including weapons, battle flags and uniforms.
Where to Stay
